This past Tuesday, October 14th, we hosted a special community kick-off to celebrate that the Planet B.io Flexible Bio Lab is now fully up and running. While the lab has already been in use by several companies, this event marked the moment to showcase the completed setup, share new opportunities, and welcome our newest user.
Over 30 tenant companies, community members, and guests joined us to explore the lab, learn more about its flexible use model, and network with fellow innovators. During the event, we proudly welcomed Ilia Vialshin from Hypesound as the first to rent a full bench for several months - an exciting milestone in the continued development of our shared facilities.
The afternoon began with a networking lunch and an introduction to the lab’s shared services. Attendees discovered the flexibility of our model: organizations can rent a bench in our fully equipped facility for as little as one month, enabling them to scale their research activities with ease. Users can also rent individual equipment such as the SpectraMax or incubators, and starting this fall, two 1-liter bioreactors from Getinge, supported by a senior fermentation specialist, will be available as well.
Cindy Gerhardt, Director of Planet B.io, reflected on this milestone and the growing importance of shared R&D infrastructure for our community. The program concluded with guided tours of both the Flexible Bio Lab and the Education Lab. In addition, GenScript presented their AmMag Quatro series, demonstrating how automation can enhance the efficiency and reliability of laboratory workflows - from large-scale plasmid purification to mini-scale antibody processes.
